Big 9th-inning rally leads Waterloo Bucks to 8th consecutive win

The winning streak appeared to be ending Sunday afternoon, but the Waterloo Bucks erased a 5-run, 9th-inning deficit to defeat Thunder Bay 10-9 in 10 innings.

The win was the eighth straight for Waterloo and moved them to 1.5 games ahead of second-place Willmar.

A 5-run seventh inning by Thunder Bay put the Border Cats seemingly in control with a 9-5 lead.  The Bucks failed to score in their next two at bats, but would get the job done in the 9th.

Pat MacKenzie knocked a base hit into center, scoring Blake Hickman to cut the deficit to 4 runs.

The next batter, Chesny Young, was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring one more.

Jake Mahon drove in the inning's third run with a sacrifice fly in to right field. Kevin Needham then ripped a base hit to left, making it a one-run game, while Will Sparks' RBI single would be the one to send the game to extra innings.

In the 10th, Waterloo quickly loaded up the bases as Mahon drove a high fly over the right fielder scoring Connor McClain for the walk-off victory.

Waterloo will head to Duluth on Tuesday looking to extend their winning streak to nine consecutive games.
