IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Despite some cloudy weather, people made their way to a new water park that opened up in Iowa City Sunday.

The Fairmeadows Park Splash Pad held its official grand opening Sunday.

The water park offers 16 water stations for kids and adults. There was also an arts and crafts table on hand for those who preferred to stay dry.

The splash pad, which was acquired with community development grant funds, offers a safe place for kids to play.

"It's for the kids, so they don't get into fights or get into trouble, so I'm glad they built that water park over here," said Charlene Myers of Iowa City. "It's good for the kids and they really love it."

The park is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily throughout the summer and is Iowa City's second splash pad.
