IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Gardens were in the spotlight in Iowa City Sunday.

Project Green held its annual garden tour through five backyard gardens in the city.

Project Green started in 1968 as a way to beautify the city. The group is responsible for the landscaping of public spaces in Iowa City.

"Go into a community where it's beautiful and well-cared for; anyone who is visiting is certainly welcomed into our community," said Diane Allen of Project Green. "And also it gives people pride to see these lovely landscaped areas."

Project Green has contributed nearly $2 million on more than 30 city and county landscaping projects.
