Flood threat in Decorah prompts plea for water conservation

DECORAH (KWWL) -

Heavy rainfall is prompting a plea for water conservation in Decorah.  It's due to the threat of flooding on the Upper Iowa River.

The Winneshiek Co. Health Department says emergency officials are requesting minimal water usage and the need to conserve water.  They say people should avoid doing laundry, minimal flushing and no washing of vehicles.

The city of Decorah is also providing sand and sandbags at Centrum Mall, which is the old Wal-Mart parking lot.  2-3 sandbags per household are being allowed.

Emergency officials are stressing people to stay home and avoid travel, due to a number of road closures and high water areas.
