DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Tyson Gay and Lolo Jones each picked up track records on a fast day at Drake Friday.

Jones, running in the semifinals of the 100 meter hurdles, blazed to a win in her heat advancing to Saturday's final.  Her time of 12.50 set the Drake track record and is the second fastest time in the world this year.

Tyson Gay overcame a slow start to defeat Justin Gatlin in the men's 100 meters.  Gay blazed to a time of 9.75 seconds, the fastest on the planet this year.  It was Gay's third fastest time in the race and the 10th fastest time on record.

Former UNI runner Tyler Mulder was barely edged by Nick Symmonds in the 800 meter semifinals.  Eric Sowinski, a former Hawkeye, finished 3rd.  All 3 advanced to Saturday's final race.
