Woods to help restore Gates Youth League

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Former Waterloo West and Iowa State star Terry Woods cut his teeth playing basketball at Gates Park.  Now he wants to give area youth that same chance.

Woods, an Iowa High School Basketball Hall of Famer, is restoring the Gates Park Youth Basketball League this summer.  He says the program gave him a structured platform to realize his hoops dreams.

"We want to give that same thing to the kids in the Gates Park Youth Basketball League, just to let them know that we're here whenever they need to talk to someone about school or whatever it is," Woods said, "So, it's bigger than basketball, and we want to make sure the kids understand that."

The league will hold a camp and registration on Friday, July 5, from 10 AM to 1 PM.  Registration is $50 per player to cover the cost of uniforms.
