Downed trees in Quasqueton a close call

QUASQUETON (KWWL) -

After severe storms ripped through Quasqueton Friday morning, some residents are considering themselves lucky.

Loras Neuhaus is among them, even though he is cleaning up the downed trees from his property. When the trees in his yard started to fall towards his home of 30 years, they hit something else – a truck parked in his front yard.

"Luckily the truck was there, otherwise my house would have been crushed more than it was," he said.

He had been fixing it for a neighbor. If it hadn't been there, he could have lost his home.

"I don't even want to think about that," he said. "That would have been disastrous."

Still, the tree missed the roof of his home by mere inches.

Now, the family is left with the task of cleaning up. And thanks to their neighbors, they'll have plenty of help.

"There are a lot of good people that live in this town," Neuhaus said. "They just showed up and no one even asked them to come over. They just showed up."
