Athlete of the Week: Dalton Hulme

TRAER (KWWL) -

Whether it's been at the plate --

on the mound --

or in the field --

North Tama's Dalton Hulme has been getting the job done all season long --

Coach Dan Korpiva:  "He's a leader by example on and off the field, just what we want our North Tama baseball players to be, and not to mention he can run down a fly ball, he can gun guys on the bases, great base stealer."

At the plate -- the soft-spoken senior's made a lot of noise hitting at a 439 clip this season for the team with the highest total batting average in the Iowa Star Conference --on the mound -- he's held opponents to a 181 average --

Kopriva: "This year hitting-wise he's really added some power to his swing, not hitting home runs, but doubles that's knocking in a lot of runs."

Dalton Hulme: "If I need to come up with a big hit, I'll come up with a big hit. I like to be in that kind of moment and I trust my teammates to be in that kind of moment, too."

All of this has the Redhawks on a role winning 10 of their last 11 -- and has them eyeing a second straight trip to the state tournament --

for Dalton Hulme -- that big stage is something he's gotten used to -- in just the last year he's played at state baseball -- was the leading rusher on the Redhawks playoff football team -- ran at the state track meet -- and was the third leading scorer as North Tama advanced to the state basketball tournament for the first time in school history --

Dalton: "It's been a wild ride my senior year, and I've been with a great group of guys, and I just do what I need to do and get stuff done."

After all that -- playing just football at Central College next year -- will be a bit of an adjustment .
