Cedar Rapids home to Midwest's only Hemophilia Camp

Posted: Updated:

The Midwest's only hemophilia camp is in session in Cedar Rapids.

The annual event held at Camp Tanager brings together more than 50 children suffering from the rare bleeding disorder.

Children are empowered to learn how to cope and manage their medical condition effectively.

It's an opportunity for campers to have fun and be around others battling similar challenges.

"It gives a chance for all these kids from around Iowa to come meet up and meet other people that are going through what they are going through and have to monitor their activity a little more than just normal kids," said Breanne Perlwitz, camp assistant director.

The six day camp serves children between the ages of six and 17.

Camp Tanager's Hemophilia Camp was established in 1986.
