8 Linn County non-profits receive historic preservation grants

The Linn County Board of Supervisors has awarded more than $28,000 from the Linn County Historic Preservation Grant program to aid eight nonprofit organizations within the county. The Linn County Board of Supervisors has awarded more than $28,000 from the Linn County Historic Preservation Grant program to aid eight nonprofit organizations within the county.

An $8,000 award was given to the Central City Historical Society to paint Sawyer House.

The African American Museum of Iowa, Alburnett Community Historical Society, Brucemore Mansion, Center Point Community Historical Society, Stewart Memorial Library at Coe College, Coggan Historical Society and Ushers Ferry Historic Village were also winners of the competitive grants.

"We are proud to support the work of these organizations that are dedicated to preserving Linn County's history for future generations," said John Harris, Chairman of the Linn County Board of Supervisors.

The funding will be made available beginning in July.
