Waterloo Honor Flight receives hero's welcome

Posted: Updated:

90 area veterans received a hero's welcome on Tuesday night.

The Waterloo Honor Flight departed early in the morning for the nation's capitol. Once there, the men toured their respective war memorials, in addition to other attractions.

Robert Kunkle, 80, served in the Korean War, and was accompanied by his son, Scott. He said it was great to have the opportunity to share his experiences with family.

"I think that taking him there to see some of the things his dad did, it was important to me," Kunkle said.

Kunkle said it was his first time seeing the memorial to his service.
