East Softball battles Jefferson

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

In softball last night Waterloo East plays host to ninth ranked Cedar Rapids Jefferson--led by former Xavier head coach and longtime Jefferson assistant Brian Erbe who replaces the legendary Larry Niemeyer...

East which scored 2 runs in the first led 2-0 and just one out from the win--Trojan eighth grader Leah Frost pitching a 3 hit shutout--- gets Jefferson's Katelyn Holub to ground to short-- but East High's Lefty Loftus can't hold on to throw at first base--putting runners on first and third for Jefferson with two outs.

Next batter Madison Blietz rips a two run double to right-- Savanah Flower and Holub score as Cedar Rapids Jefferson shocks East tying the game at 2.
But East regained its composure--bottom of the seventh --one out Katelyn Kinnetz hits a shot to right off Alissa Good that is going to drop for an extra base hit--- as Kinnetz races to third...

And then good is a little wild with her next pitch-- allowing Kinnetz to score the game winning run from third---  East wins the first game of the double header 3-2.
