MARSHALLTOWN (KWWL) -

The Iowa Veterans Home is getting nearly $24 million for renovations.

U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin's office announced today that the Department of Veterans Affairs is awarding the Marshalltown facility $23,840,617.

Those funds will go toward renovating the Dack and Malloy buildings at the Iowa Veterans Home.

"Our veterans deserve the best care available, and these funds will go a long way toward providing resources and assistance for Iowa veterans," said Harkin in a press release Tuesday. "I have heard many stories about the hardships veterans face as they get older, and it is our duty to assure continued support for men and women in the military far after they've left the battlefield.

"As a veteran myself, I congratulate the State Veterans Home on this award and I look forward to the improvements it will bring," he added.
