DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Governor Terry Branstad has announced 42-year-old Duane "D.T." Magee as the interim head of the Iowa Department of Education.

Magee fills the void left by outgoing director Jason Glass, who is leaving to become a superintendent in Colorado.

Magee will begin his interim position on Monday, June 24. He will also continue as executive director of the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners, which licenses Iowa's teachers.

Previously, Magee worked in the Waukee and Harlan school districts.

Governor Branstad says a nationwide search for a permanent Department of Education director will continue.
