Warren Transport to buy Waterloo Greyhound Park

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Plans are in the works to transform the former Waterloo Greyhound Park into the headquarters of a local trucking company.

Warren Transport of Waterloo plans to buy the greyhound park and move its facilities there and expand.

The National Cattle Congress owns the property - with the Meskwaki tribe holding a lien on the land.

Warren already parks its trucks at the site.

Under its plan, Warren would tear down the current building, clear the land then construct a new building that would open late 2014.

"Once the facility is done, it'll certainly beautify this whole area. The site plan is gorgeous. We're looking forward to it. Can't wait to show the community what a transportation company can look like," Warren Transport President Richard Donnelly.

The greyhound track has sat empty since dog racing stopped in the mid-1990s.

Warren expects to close the deal in a few months.

It would then sell its current facility on Beck Avenue.
