CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

It was a hot and sunny day this Father's Day.

From exploring history, to working on his back swing, to watching a different kind of swing, many dads spent the day outdoors with their kids.

For some, Father's Day was a beautiful day for a ball game. Families decided to take dad to Veterans Memorial Stadium to catch the Cedar Rapids Kernels game.

"I just like watching baseball," said Clinton Mikesell, a dad at the game with his three kids.

So do many other dads, which is why there were long lines for tickets outside the box office.

Others decided to hit the links. Twin Pines Golf Course was full of families honoring dad. Three generations of the Wittnebel family went golfing together.

"It's a good chance for us to get together and be relaxing and just drive around and enjoy the outdoors," said Jim Wittnebel, Jr., of Cedar Rapids.

"It's a really nice day for a change, and we're celebrating Father's Day, and what a great way to celebrate it -- to play some golf with family," said Jim Wittnebel, Sr., also of Cedar Rapids.

For other families, Father's Day was a chance to play old games and learn at Usher's Ferry Historic Village. Special games and activities, like orienteering, were set up for families.

"The activities sounded fun," said Robert Brooks, of Cedar Rapids. "I saw an ad for it a while back somewhere and it sounded like something fun to do on Father's Day."
