UPDATE: 72-year-old's name released, arrest made in Cedar Rapids stabbing

An older man was assaulted in Cedar Rapids early Sunday morning. An older man was assaulted in Cedar Rapids early Sunday morning.
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Police have released the name of a 73-year-old man who was stabbed early Sunday morning. Police say Frederick Rottmiller, of Cedar Rapids, was stabbed multiple times causing serious injuries.

Police have arrested Theodore Gathercole II. He's been charged with attempted murder, first degree robbery, and willful injury. Gathercole is currently in Linn County Jail.

Rottmiller's condition has not been released.

It happened just before 4 a.m. Sunday near Park Court and 2nd Avenue SE.

Police say they found a 72-year-old man who had been assaulted. The man was taken to a local hospital and is believed to still be alive.

As of 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon, Cedar Rapids Police were investigating at a home on the 100 block of Park Court SE.
