BUCHANAN COUNTY (KWWL) -

4 kayakers were rescued on the Wapsipinicon River in Buchanan County Saturday.  Authorities say 3 women and 1 man became stuck in a logjam on the river between Littleton and Independence around 5 p.m.  Rescue crews from the Buchanan Co. Sheriff's Office, DNR and several area fire departments responded to the scene.  They were able to make it to shore where firefighters found them safe.

Authorities say the water level of the Wapsipinicon River, along with many other area rivers, is still very high with swiftly moving currents and is considered to be very dangerous.  They say in areas where there are log jams, the water is forced underneath the jam and can easily result in drowning.  They are advising people to stay off local rivers until the water has subsided to normal levels.
