CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says one of the jet skiers rescued from the Cedar River on Wednesday has died.

Kevin Baskins of the Iowa DNR says two jet skis collided on the Cedar River, near Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids, at around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, a bystander, 26-year-old Dillon Heisuis, heard cries of help coming from the water and called 911.

Heisuis found two men in their 50's lying in the water near two jet skis.

One man was found unconscious, and received medical treatment from bystanders and Cedar Rapids police officers on the scene. He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in serious condition.

The other was conscious when rescuers removed him from the water, but he was also taken to St. Luke's.

Baskins identified the two men as 53-year-old Michael Scott Paulsen and his brother, 56-year-old Gary Paulsen, both of Cedar Rapids.

Baskins says Michael Paulsen died at the hospital.

The accident is still under investigation.
