CLINTON (KWWL) -

The state of Iowa already prohibits smoking in bars, restaurants and other public places, but now one Iowa city is considering additional restrictions.

Clinton city leaders are looking to ban smoking in city parks while youth sports and other events are going on. That ban would include city-owned soccer and baseball fields and other outdoor sports complexes.

Smokers who break these rules could be asked to leave or face penalties.

While some Clinton residents like the idea, others think there are already enough smoking restrictions in place.

"I think you should be able to smoke if you want to," Steve Archer said.

Margaret Archer looks at it differently.

"I think it's the children's right not to have to breathe the smoke," she said.

A committee approved the parks ban, but the proposal must still go before the Clinton City Council.
