Posted: Updated:
SUMNER (KWWL) -

In January, we featured six-year-old Alaina (Lanie) Hettinger in our Someone You Should Know segment.

She was diagnosed with Caroli's disease, which affects her liver. She also has a disease called FSGS, which impacts her kidneys.

In April, Lanie got a double transplant of her kidney and liver and is still in the hospital in Minneapolis.

Friends of the family are organizing a benefit on June 29th. The Living Thru Lanie Benefit starts with a 5K run/walk at Cub Park in Sumner at 8 a.m. Pre-registration is $25.00

Activities continue in the afternoon and evening at the Sumner-Fredericksburg High School.

The Hettingers lived in Sumner before moving to Iowa City.
