Mini Golf Madness fundraiser to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters

Palmer's Family Fun on Airline Highway in Waterloo is hosting a fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa, which matches adult mentors with children.

"Mentors provide children who are facing adversity with an extra support system, an extra friend, an extra person to help them through the hard times through childhood," said Maria Benham with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The community is invited to support the nonprofit organization at the Second Annual Mini Golf Madness Tournament. The event is Thursday, June 13th with tee times at either 5:30 or 7:30 p.m.

You do not have to be a mentor with the organization to participate.

"If you're not able to devote the time, you can support our mission in other ways, golfing is one of them," said Benham.

You can sign-up a team or register as an individual to putt your way through 36 mini golf holes to support mentoring in the Cedar Valley.

"The kids in our program are more likely to grow up doing better in school, better relationships, better self-confidence, more aspirations and make better choices. Grow up not only to be better children, but better adults," said Maria Benham.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa serves 300 children each year in Black Hawk and Bremer Counties.

"We have 100 kids on a waiting list. So we always need bigs. We also need the financial support so we're able to make the matches and get them going," said Benham.

The cost for Mini Golf Madness is $10 per person if you pre-register or $15 on the day of the tournament.
