WAVERLY (KWWL) -

More than $4,600 was raised during a kick-off event in Waverly Tuesday night for three teenagers who plan to run across the state and raise awareness about malaria.

Brad Sylam, Scott VanDaalen and Ethan Wise will begin their cross-state adventure on June 11 with a 14-mile run to Sheldon.

The three will run anywhere from 9 to 33 miles a day until they reach Dubuque on July 2.

They plan to stay at various churches along the route.

Any donations collected will go to either the ELCA Malaria campaign or to the United Methodist Imagine No Malaria campaign.
