ANAMOSA (KWWL) -

Strawberry Hill Elementary School has raised $2,700 after a kindergartner spearheaded a fundraising effort called "Bucks for Boston."

School administrators said Thursday a check will be sent next week that will help victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

The "Bucks for Boston" fundraising campaign started in May after 6-year old Victor James Frana asked his kindergarten teacher, Jen Petersen, what his school could do to help the victims of the Boston Marathon.

Petersen participated in the Boston Marathon and crossed the finish line 15-minutes before the bombs went off.

When she came back to her classroom, Frana said he wanted to donate pennies from his piggy bank to people who were hurt from the bombings at the Boston Marathon.

The school hoped to raise $1,000.
