New Dubuque County pedestrian bridge safely links trails

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE COUNTY (KWWL) -

A new pedestrian and cyclist bridge over US Highway 52 just north of Dubuque connects Dubuque County's Heritage Trail to the city's biking and walking paths.

The bridge creates a safe route over the highway and now links Dyersville to downtown Dubuque, totaling more than 50 miles of linked trails.

Dubuque County Conservation Board director Brian Preston said the bridge had been a goal for more than 30 years and he's happy to see it come to fruition.

"There's a whole trail network that's connected now, and it's really exciting," Preston said. "Dubuque is a community that's really concerned about health and wellness and sustainability, so this opens up a whole lot of options for citizens around here."

A ribbon-cutting for the new bridge is Saturday morning at 10 at the Heritage Pond trail head.

It's part of a full day of outdoor, family-friendly activities free and open to the public.
