Sandbags available in Buchanan County

Posted: Updated:
BUCHANAN COUNTY (KWWL) -

Emergency officials will have sandbags available to those who need them beginning Thursday morning.

In the city of Jesup, sandbags will be located at Buchanan County shop located on the north side of train tracks, at 831 Douglas Street. Please bring shovels and gloves.

In Independence, sand & sandbags will be located at the old Fareway building on 2nd Avenue SW. Please bring shovels and gloves.

Crews say to fill sandbags from these two locations only. Do not use sand from the Independence City Shop as it contains salt from winter use and is a skin contact risk.

Buchanan County is not requesting volunteers at this time.

Currently, there are no road closures in Buchanan County, but watch for barricades because some roads may have washed-out areas.

If you have questions, you can Contact Emergency Management Office at 319-334-6411, or check www.buchananem.com click on News. There will be press releases posted in the news section throughout the day.
