LA PORTE CITY (KWWL) -

Officials in La Porte City have closed a portion of West Main Street due to flooding on Wolf Creek.

Crews closed West Main Street between Highway 218 and Locust Street after water from Wolf Creek began overtaking the road.

The Public Works Department notified residents that they may want to evacuate, but it wasn't mandatory. Director Sam Weich said many people chose to sandbag around their homes instead. He says people can get to their homes on foot.

Officials continue to monitor levels in the creek. The water level is expected to receive Monday evening. Officials say the creek can afford light rain this week but not more heavy rain.
