Two people injured, home destroyed in Cedar Rapids fire
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -
Two people are injured and a home is destroyed after a fire in Cedar Rapids. It happened just after 5:30 Sunday morning at 3107 Bayberry Drive Southwest.
The Cedar Rapids Fire Department said the owner of the home, a 61-year-old woman, called 9-1-1 after seeing a fire in her basement.
The woman and her one-year-old granddaughter did get out of the house, but they were transported to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation.
Four other people living in the house were not home at the time of the fire. The family dog was unable to successfully escape the fire and was retrieved by firefighters from the basement. The home is a complete loss with extensive fire, heat and smoke damage.
