Award created to honor Feller's military service

Bob Feller's military service is getting some much deserved attention.  The Cleveland Indians and the United States Navy announced the creation of the Bob Feller Act of Valor Award.

The award will be given annually to one major league player, one member of the hall of fame, and one Navy Chief Petty Officer.

The award was to honor Feller's service during World War II.  The Van Meter, Iowa, native enlisted in the Navy in 1941 at the age of 23.  Feller, a major league baseball hall of famer, served on the USS Alabama in the Pacific theatre and was honorably discharged in 1945.  He died in 2010 at the age of 92.
