EVANSDALE (KWWL) -

The man accused of abducting two teens in Webster County is connected to eastern Iowa, according to the mother of an eastern Iowa girl found dead last year.

According to Heather Collins, the late Michael Klunder is from Bremer County. Klunder is accused of taking two teenage girls on Monday.

One of them, a 12-year-old, got away and told authorities Klunder lured her and 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard into his truck with a lawn mowing job.

Now police think Klunder may be connected to the abduction of Lyric and Elizabeth last summer.

As volunteers continue to the search for Shepard, investigators are looking into links between the two cases. Authorities are continuing to evaluate evidence in the Evansdale abduction.

Heather Collins, the mother and aunt of the abducted Evansdale cousins, truly hopes there is a connection.

"He could be the guy," Collins said. "He knew Waverly pretty well. We're just waiting on the authorities to do their job -- FBI, DCI and police."

For nearly six months, Collins said multiple leads have been shared with her family. It wasn't until now that there appeared to be a direct connection to her daughter and niece.

We'll hear more from Collins tonight in the KWWL News at 5 and 6.
