Community garden dedicated to local Burmese population

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

New community gardens in Waterloo's Church Row Neighborhood are sprouting up.

Thanks to a collection of area organizations, a garden off West 4th Street was dedicated Thursday. The plots were tilled with the neighborhood's growing Burmese population in mind. Organizers hope that this project can serve as a way for the Burmese people to work alongside others and become more assimilated into the area.

Habitat for Humanity, the Iowa State Extension, Hawkeye Community College, and Blue Zones all worked together to make the project a reality. There are two other community gardens in the works.
