High river levels forcing Cedar Rapids to close boat ramps

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The City of Cedar Rapids will be closing boat ramps beginning at 8 p.m. Friday due to the high river levels that are expected.

Cedar Rapids Fire Department Public Information Officer Greg Buelow says all boat ramps along the Cedar River that are within city limits will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday until 8 a.m. on Sunday.

Buelow says the Cedar River is closed to boats and water craft when it reaches 13 feet because of the danger created by the fast moving water and increased debris.

Barricades will be placed in front of the boat ramps while the river level is at or above the 13-foot mark.
