Marion council member resigns


The City of Marion says council member Lou Stark submitted his letter of resignation and they will appoint someone to finish the rest of the term.

Amber Bisinger, Communication Coordinator for Marion, says Stark will resign effective June 1 to head the Department of Student Affairs at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Stark would have been up for re-election in November.

Bisinger says the council plans to fill Stark's seat by appointment, but voters in Marion can file a petition to require the seat be filled by special election.

To be considered for appointment to the seat, you must be a registered voter in Marion and a resident of the 4th Ward. You must also submit a resume and letter of application. Those should be sent to : City Council in care of the City Clerk at City Hall, 1225 6th Avenue, Marion, Iowa 52302.

Applications must be received by 12:00 p.m. on June 13.

The appointment is expected to take place at the City Council meeting on June 20.
