IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

All this month, KWWL has been showing viewers how eastern Iowa has recovered from the floods and tornados five years ago. It's a project we call "Un-Natural Disasters +5."

Wednesday on the KWWL News at 10, Jason Epner shows us the University of Iowa's monumental task of rebuilding a significant part of campus lost in 2008's historic flooding.  It's a price tag now approaching $1 billion.

Hear from University of Iowa President Sally Mason, and a timetable for flood recovery.  It's a time where the university is embarking on an unprecedented amount of construction.

"I have to give our people great credit to understand there would be a bright side and we simply had to work hard to get to that, and we're all starting to see that now, and it's exciting," Mason said.

Recovery is only part of the equation.  The efforts include building a more sustainable campus, one that is better protected against future flooding.

Five years after the flood, the University is primed for major change -- improvements that students, faculty, and staff are eagerly awaiting.
