Big performances pace final day of the co-ed state track meet

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

The 2013 state track meet came to an end on Saturday with a number of great eastern Iowa performances.

The Wapsie Valley boys dominated the 1A hurdle races.  Adam Bachman brought them home first in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 59.35 seconds. Bachman also won the individual 110 hurdles in 15.18 seconds.  Those two performances helped the Warriors finish second in the 1A team race behind Manson-Northwest Webster.

The Monticello boys capped off a very strong week winning a pair of titles on Saturday.  Ben Alrichs and Dallas Lumpa finished 1st and 3rd respectively in the 800 meters.  The second came when Michael Melchert beat teammate JJ Frawley in the 1600 as the Panthers won a team title in dominant fashion.

In class 3A, South Tama got a title as Kyle Stephenson anchored their 4 x 100 team to victory in 42.87 seconds.  Waterloo West followed suit in the class 4A race.  Lance Dunn Jr brought the Wahawks home on top setting a state meet record of 41.84 seconds.  Mississippi Valley Conference counterpart Linn-Mar would capture the 4A team title.

In the girls races, Belle Plaine got a pair of 1A relay titles, both anchored by Emily Toennies as she helped them to victory in the sprint medley and the 4x100.

In 2A, Cascade's Abbey Meyer anchored their sprint medley team to a win.  Cascade would finish as the team runner up.  Monticello's Kaylee Jones blazed to a title in the open 100 meters.  Jasmine Staebler, the sophomore from Clayton Ridge picked up 2 more titles in the 200 and the 800.  The Aplington-Parkersburg girls shuttle hurdle team, anchored by Bailey Schipper, rolled to a win in just under 1 minute, 7 seconds.

In 3A, Anamosa's Olivia Loy won her 3rd title of the weekend when she captured the 200 meters.

Waverly-Shell Rock's Anna Holdiman finished an outstanding career with a new 3A record in the 1500, finishing in under 4 minutes 42 seconds.  The state title was the 7th of Holdiman's career.
