UNI softball wins 1st, drops 2nd as season ends in NCAA's

LINCOLN, Neb. (KWWL) -

The UNI softball team fell to #13 Stanford 4-1 Saturday night, ending their season in the NCAA regionals.  The Panthers had earlier staved off elimination in a 2-1 win over Tulsa.

In the Tulsa game, senior pitcher Jamie Fisher recorded 12 strikeouts while picking up her 62nd career win.  Gina Brown drove in the first run of the game on an RBI infield single in the 3rd inning.  UNI scored the game winning run on a bases loaded walk in the 4th.

The evening game against Stanford didn't go as well.  The Panthers gave up 2 runs in the third, the first scored on a UNI error.  The Cardinal picked up a pair of doubles in the 4th and put 2 more on the board to take control of the game.

The Panthers were playing in the tournament for the first time in 23 years.
