WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Army veteran James Dean finally has three military service medals he was awarded but had never received.

Representative Bruce Braley presented Dean with the medals during a small ceremony at Ravenwood Nursing Home in Waterloo.

"It's an honor to present James with the medals he earned so long ago for his service in the Army," said Braley.

Dean enlisted in the Army in 1942.

He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal for his service.

"Well I feel honored that I served in the service, and I put my time in there for my country, and I feel that I did a great deal," said Dean.

Dean said he'll proudly display the medals on the wall of his room at the nursing home.

Thousands of World War II veterans have never received medals they earned due to shortgages in materials after the war.

Rep. Braley's office has helped numerous Iowa veterans receive them. Veterans looking for assistance can contact Rep. Braley's Waterloo office at (319) 287-3233.
