HAZLETON (KWWL) -

A Vinton man is in stable condition after being trapped in a piece of farm equipment Thursday afternoon.

Randy Blake of Vinton was taken to Oelwein Mercy Hospital and later transferred by air ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after becoming stuck in a rock picker, according to the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office.

Blake was operating the rock picker in a field on the south side of 118th Street in Hazleton when a rock became stuck in the machine, rendering it inoperable.

Blake then attempted to free the rock when it dislodged and the reel entangled, trapping Blake between the reel and the inside of the hopper.

He was able to wave his arms to get the attention of other workers in the field, who called police.

Blake's condition was considered to be stable, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The Hazleton Fire Department and Oelwein Mercy Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
