MARION (KWWL) -

Marion firefighters say a fire at a vacant home on 20th Street Wednesday night was intentionally set.

Marion District Chief Doug Wyman says crews were called to 490 20th Street at around 8:35 p.m. Wednesday when neighbors saw smoke coming from the southwest corner of the home.

Firefighters forced their way in after neighbors told them no one was living in the house, Wyman said. Once inside, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire in the basement.

Crews had the fire out in less than 10 minutes.

Wyman says investigators have determined that the fire was intentionally set, but is not being ruled an arson at this point.

Damage was contained mainly to the basement, but there was minor smoke damage to the first floor.

No injuries were reported and the fire remains under investigation.
