ANAMOSA (KWWL) -

An Anamosa man was airlifted to the hospital after a crash north of Solon on Wednesday morning.

Larry Albert Shelton, 74, of Anamosa, was taken by Air Care to University of Iowa Hospitals after his 2007 Ford Taurus rolled into a field just before 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

Officials said Shelton was southbound on Highway 1 north of Solon and was in the northbound lane passing a line of slow-moving southbound traffic when another southbound vehicle merged into the northbound lane.

The merged forced Shelton's vehicle onto the east shoulder. Shelton then entered the east ditch and struck a field driveway, rolling his vehicle into a field.

Shelton was wearing a seatbelt at the time. His condition is unknown.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
