Firefighters making visits easier for kids and families

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department is helping make visits to the hospital easier for children and their families. The department is partnering with St. Luke's Hospital to bring Sparky's Truck to the center for women's and children's health.

The truck will be filled with games and stuffed animals for the kids to keep. There will also be Kindles and iPads that can be borrowed. For the parents, there will gas and restaurant gift cards.

"Just looking at what we can do to provide things for families that are in the hospital for a long time," said Karla Pisarik, Family Support Liaison at St. Luke's Hospital. "Patients that are sick but are sometimes wanting to do some extra things while they're here."

The truck is being funded by the Cedar Rapids Firefighters Foundation. They'll be donating the funds raised at their September flag football game, the Fire Bowl, to fund the truck.
