Eastern Iowa Airport official move forward on improvement plans

Randy Fehr of Wayland, Iowa is leaving for Scotland out of the Eastern Iowa Airport.
It's been his choice airport since he retired seven years ago.
"This is the only airport we fly out of," he said.
Fehr says for him, flying out of Cedar Rapids is a matter of convenience.
"It's small, easy to get into, and out of," Fehr said.
Many more like Fehr are passing through the Eastern Iowa Airport these days, the airport has seen a record number of travelers for the third straight month.
"It's clean, it's very well laid out, access is easy in and out," said business traveler Todd Taylor.
Airport officials are crediting an improving economy and the addition of the low cost carrier Frontier Airlines providing service out west for the turnaround.
The growth is a welcome sign for airport administration.
Given the numbers, officials are now moving forward on finalizing the airports master plan for the years to come.
While only in the design phase, the plan includes modernizing the 26-year-old terminal lobby, making the area more passenger-friendly.
Improvements also include the expansion of the rental car parking area, an expanded security checkpoint, and two new gates.
"It's going to open up the area here in the public lobby, open up more space and it's going to improve our parking for our rent-a-car companies so there's going to be more cars available for the business traveler."
Planning necessary to accommodate more growth in the future.
