Wrigley pulls caffeine gum

The Wrigley Company is temporarily stopping production and sales of its controversial new caffeine gum.

The company is taking the action in response to concerns raised by the Food and Drug Administration about the impact of caffeine on kids and teens.

Wrigley says they will keep the "Alert Energy Caffeine Gum" off the store shelves to allow the FDA to develop regulations on caffeine added to food and drinks.

Each piece of the new gum contains 40 milligrams of caffeine, about half a cup of coffee.

Last week the Wrigley company stated the gum was an energy product marketed for adults 25 and older.
