Renovation of Masonic Lodge into craft brewery begins in Manchester

Renovation of the historic Masonic Lodge building in downtown Manchester into a craft brewery will begin this week.

Brothers Chad and Kyle Sands are turning the first floor of the building into Franklin Street Brewing Company, a craft brewery and tap house with opening day slated for early 2014.

Phase one of the renovations will consist of restoring much of the building's original beauty.

"From the beginning, we wanted the building's true character to shine through," brewery co-owner Chad Sands said.

The renovation work will consist of removing the plaster walls to reveal the original brick as well as taking down the drop ceiling tiles to show the grand, 13-foot ceiling.

Other work will include updating the Franklin Street façade and Delaware Street exteriors.

The brothers said the tap house will offer a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere with hardwood flooring, exposed brick walls and -- the centerpiece of the building -- a large bar with plenty of seating to enjoy the locally-produced beer.
