Father charged after son brings gun to school

A Johnston man faces charges after his son brought a gun to school.

Johnston Police say 31-year-old Louis Friestad's eight-year-old son brought a handgun to Lawson Elementary School in Johnston Tuesday.

School officials say another student spotted the gun in the boy's clothing, who reported it to a teacher.

Police say they confiscated several other weapons found unsecured in Friestad's home, which also was occupied by several other young children.

Friestad is charged with violating gun laws and child endangerment.
