LUZERNE (KWWL) -

A Cedar Rapids man was killed Tuesday afternoon when his motorcycle crashed just south of Luzerne.

Gary Lee Evilsizer, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene by Benton County Medical Examiner's Office personnel, according to Benton County Sheriff Randall Forsyth.

Evilsizer and two other motorcyclists were riding along 77th Street about a half-mile south of Luzerne at around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday when Evilsizer and another motorcyclist failed to negotiate a curve.

Both bikes left the roadway and went into a steep ditch. Evilsizer's motorcycle struck a road sign as it left the roadway, according to officials.

The other rider, who was not named, received only minor injuries.

Officials are still investigating the incident.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Luzerne Fire Department, Belle Plaine Ambulance Service, Life Guard Helicopter in Cedar Rapids and the Belle Plaine Police Department.
