Approximately 11,000 newborns died on their birthday in the United States in 2011.

The U.S. is ranked as the 13th best place in the world to be a mother, below all of Western Europe and Australia. Finland was found to be the best place to be a mother.

The U.S. had 60 percent of all first-day deaths among industrialized countries.

The rankings are based on women's education, income, political representation and the chance she and her baby will survive childbirth.
