WATERLOO (KWWL) -
Elizabeth Collins was laid to rest Saturday.
Family members held a public burial for her at Waterloo Memorial Cemetery.
Elizabeth and her cousin, Lyric Cook, disappeared in July from Meyers Lake in Evansdale.
Both of their bodies were found in a Bremer County wildlife area five months later.
Elizabeth's family held a public burial so the entire community could attend.
"I really, I can feel her presence here," said Heather Collins of her daughter.
Heather said the burial is a step in the healing process, but that real healing will happen when investigators find the person(s) responsible for murdering her daughter and niece.
The Associate Pastor from Heartland Vineyard Church Chris Reeves officiated Saturday's emotional burial for Elizabeth.
"Knowing now that obviously she's no longer here, that's difficult," he said.
Reeves said his family has known the Collins family for years.
But he said good things have come through this tragedy.
"We see good in the way families are coming together. We see good in the way the community has been brought together. We see good in all these different situations out of something that was so horrific and such a tragedy," he said.
Private funeral services were held for Lyric Cook last month.
It was unclear if any additional events, like a burial, were conducted for Lyric.
