Hawkeye football players make dreams come true for Camp Courageous campers

Posted:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Saturday was a special one for some area campers as the Hawkeye football team hosted a group of people from Camp Courageous, which serves people of all ages with disabilities.

This is the eighth straight year the events been held as the kids got to hang out with Iowa seniors James Morris, Mike Meyer, Brett Van Sloten and Christian Kirksey.

Although the event is supposed to be fun for the kids, the players say they get just as much out of it.

"It means a lot that we can use our talents that we've been given to make someone's day like that," said Brett Van Sloten, Offensive Line. "Something as simple as spending a few hours with the kids today, meant a lot to them and it meant a lot to use as well."

"To give back to the kids, it puts a smile on your face and it warms your heart," said Christian Kirksey, Linebacker. "Just to see yourself as a hero or, you know, a role model to them, it makes you feel great."
