A bridge and bike trail damaged by the 2008 floods will officially open to the public

A bridge and bike trail damaged by the 2008 floods will officially open Saturday to the public.

La Porte City and the Black Hawk County Conservation Board will be hosting the grand opening of the McFarlane Bridge on the Cedar Valley Nature trail Saturday at 11 a.m. The Cedar Valley Nature Trail will again connect communities along its entire 52 mile corridor.

The celebration starts at 11 a.m. near the entrance of McFarlane Park, located at 13619 King Road, La Porte City.

Entertainment is provided by "The Ramblers", and the La Porte City Fire Rescue crew will be serving up lunch for a nominal fee.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Guests are encouraged to bike to the event. Area bike clubs are organizing a large ride to the event beginning at Gateway Park in Cedar Falls.
